Our final step in our project was to present our work to the school by creating a bulletin board. We posted our presentations along with the rubric that we used to evaluate them. Here are some pictures.

Students think about issues in their community

Students were given the opportunity to think about issues in their community. This was the process that we followed:

1. They chose various topics such as high gas prices, homelessness, poverty, lack of school supplies, and gangs.

2. Then they were told to rank those issues in order of importance.  Once finished with the ranking, students selected their top issue and wrote a paragraph explaining its importance.

3. For homework, students wrote a paragraph outlining possible solutions for their community issue. One of the students mentioned creating a Power Point presentation to showcase their issue and research.

4. We took a vote and students chose to create presentations.

5. Students were given the choice to work individually, in pairs, or in groups of three.

6. After choosing groups, students drafted their presentations/research. Students drafted slides to depict the following: Introduction, importance of issue, questions to research, and conclusion.

7. Once students drafted their slides, they researched online.

8. After finishing up their research, students jumped right into creating their Power Points.

9. Some groups got a chance to present and were evaluated by their peers using a rubric.
